Assessment of Completeness of Handwritten Prescriptions in Eastern Libya

Background Prescriptions, medicolegal documents issued by physicians to patients, must be written accurately and clearly, contain all the required information, adhere guidelines for prescription writing. In eastern Libya, most prescriptions are handwritten. Incomplete might lead serious medication errors. Aim The aim of this article was assess completeness handwritten working in Libya. Method A total 1,080 were collected from pharmacies different parts city Derna its suburbs After exclusion three that defined as illegible researchers, 1,077 remaining examined against a checklist designed according World Health Organization (WHO). Results Most (84.12%) did not name prescribing physician. patient's mentioned on 16.06% prescriptions. Patient-related information missing (91.27%) prescribed drugs using their trade names. Drug strength, route drug administration, duration therapy absent 29.61, 87, 56.17% prescriptions, respectively. Only 26% contained date. Conclusion inspected study had some deficiencies WHO guidelines.
